Investigation Derived Waste (IDW) is waste generated from environmental site investigation activities required for determining the presence, extent, and/or nature of known or suspected contamination at a site.  IDW waste may include drilling muds, cuttings, purge water from test pit and well install.  Management of these waste includes sampling, profiling, manifesting, and transportation to the disposal facility.
